Overview

ImmuneXcite is a privately held biopharmaceutical company based in Lexington, Mass., developing immune-activating anti-tumor biotherapeutics using its proprietary mAbXcite platform. The mAbXcite platform attaches a fungal beta-1,6-glucan to cancer-targeting monoclonal antibodies to activate complement and neutrophils, which then recruit T cells to further limit tumor growth and metastasis. The company reports several lead drug candidates targeting cancers with high unmet need. ImmuneXcite plans to use recent funding to complete studies that will enable selection of a lead program to advance into human clinical trials in 2018. The company completed an $8.6 million Series A-1 financing to support those studies. ImmuneXcite has also strengthened its leadership team and board in association with the financing, naming Eric Furfine as Chief Scientific Officer and acting CEO and adding industry veterans to its board. ImmuneXcite is a Lexington, MA‑based biopharmaceutical company that has developed an immunotherapy platform of antibody‑carbohydrate mAbXcite conjugates. The platform targets cancer cells for destruction by engaging neutrophils, the most abundant and potent white blood cells, which are not typically involved in cancer immunotherapy. The company intends to use the new funding to move its mAbXcite conjugates toward an IND (investigational New Drug) filing. ImmuneXcite was founded based on research originating from the Whitehead Institute at MIT by Yaniv Bejerano, who serves as CEO. Financially, it secured $3.58M in a second funding round, in addition to a $2.42M first round raised in 2011 and an approximately $1M accelerator loan from the Massachusetts Life Science Center. Backers in the latest round included both new and existing investors.
