Imonomy builds a visual-semantic engine that scans webpages, selects copyright-free images from its database and automatically inserts them in optimal positions to improve engagement. Inserted images support hover links to other articles and display ads, enabling monetization for publishers and Imonomy. The company targets smaller web publishers and says its software is used by more than 500 medium-sized websites (with up to 10 million monthly impressions), including AOL Answers and Articles Base. Imonomy was founded in the middle of last year by Oren Dror and Amit Halawa, both formerly senior R&D and engineering staff at Yedda. The startup operates a freemium model that shares ad revenue with publishers and says its revenue-share varies by publisher size and traffic. It raised seed funding to accelerate product development and initial marketing and sales and expects to be profitable by the end of the year.
