Outvote provides an app that uploads users' phone contacts, matches them to registered-voter databases, and supplies scripts so individuals can text friends voting reminders from their own phone numbers. The product is focused exclusively on Democratic campaigns and is currently being piloted with roughly 50 Democratic campaigns. The team reports early effectiveness: millennials contacted via Outvote were twice as likely to vote, while non-millennials were 50% more likely to vote. Outvote is available on iOS and Android and is partnering with groups including Represent.Us, Flippable, the DNC, Vote.org and Swing Left (one pending partnership was later questioned). The company plans to charge campaigns a low monthly fee that varies by size and aims for a per-text cost of about 2–5 cents, while many pilot customers are using the service for free.
