Overview
Impala builds a Plaid-like API that upgrades existing hotel property management systems with a modern interface and returns standardized JSON responses. Rather than asking hotels to replace legacy systems, Impala layers an API on top of those systems so developers can query hotel data with a few lines of code. The company is currently compatible with a handful of property management systems and is adding more to cover a wider range of hotels. About 300 hotels are already working with Impala (including Accor’s Mercure and Hyatt-branded hotels), and the company reports a backlog of 3,500 hotels. While initially focused on surfacing read-only data, Impala is planning to enable developers to book rooms directly through its API. That capability could allow Impala to replace channel managers and open hotel inventory to other services and booking flows. Impala is a London-based startup that builds a modern REST API on top of legacy Property Management Systems to standardize hotel data. The product aims to let developers interact with room inventory, pricing, bookings and other hotel data with a few lines of code, similar to Stripe, Twilio or Plaid. By doing the integration work once, Impala removes the need for developers to build many bespoke integrations to different hotel systems. The company currently supports eight different hotel systems and is focused on expanding integrations toward universal support. Impala is also developing a direct booking API to enable booking directly with hotels, reduce commissions, and lower the barrier to entry for new online sellers. Financially, Impala has just completed an $11 million Series A and previously raised a $1.75 million seed round.
