Incident

531 Howard Street, Floor 3, San Francisco, CA, 94105, United States

Overview

Incident’s core product, the gTar, docks an iPhone into the guitar body and uses an app plus interactive LEDs along the fretboard to teach players through three difficulty levels and a Smart Play sensor system. The device uses sensors rather than traditional pickups so it will only play the correct string in assisted modes, and Free Play lets the iPhone turn the instrument into a variety of sounds. Incident has built a content platform that delivers songs from the crowd; the company says it takes about 30 minutes to get a song onto the platform and works with first parties to populate the library. The gTar was demonstrated at Disrupt and is being released via Kickstarter, with a planned retail price of $450 and a headphone adapter planned. Manufacturing is being handled with a partner in China; the founders say they are using Kickstarter to ascertain demand for the hardware. Beyond the Kickstarter campaign, the article does not disclose additional revenue or financing details.
