Industrial Toys develops tablet- and smartphone-first games aimed at core gamers rather than casual players. Its debut title, Midnight Star, is a science-fiction shooter with a story by John Scalzi and art by Mike Choi, and a beta was planned for release this summer. The studio is also working on an interactive graphic novel, Midnight Rises, and intends to deliver additional content and more titles beyond the initial launch. Midnight Star is designed specifically for touch interfaces (touch to fire and zoom) rather than emulating traditional joystick controls. The game will be free-to-play with monetization via in-app purchases. The company had funded itself for two years with seed money prior to the announced round.
