Overview
Infactory is a generative AI–based fact-checking startup founded and led by Brooke Hartley Moy (CEO) and Ken Kocienda (CTO), both ex-Humane.AI. The company broke cover in July via a TechCrunch article and emphasizes using generative AI selectively to address online fact-checking. Infactory says it will not use large language models to generate fact-check results; instead LLMs will be used to determine the intent of natural-language search queries. The team prioritizes vetting data vendors over content providers and aims to be selective in partnerships to ensure accuracy. The startup raised a $4M seed at a $25M valuation and plans to use the funding to expand the team and ramp up go-to-market efforts. Kocienda’s 26-year Apple iPhone engineering background is noted as part of the founding team’s credentials. Infactory is building a fact-checking search engine that uses large language models for a natural-language interface while deliberately avoiding generative AI in the results themselves. The service will pull and collate data directly from trusted data vendors and include citations to reduce hallucinations common to generative models. At launch the product will focus exclusively on computational, data-driven queries rather than subjective topics, targeting enterprise subscribers such as newsrooms and research facilities. The company plans subscription pricing aimed at enterprise customers. Infactory is led by CEO Brooke Hartley Moy and CTO Ken Kocienda, both ex-Humane employees, and says a public launch is coming in a matter of months. The founders have raised a pre-seed round (amount and investors not disclosed) and plan to focus on a seed round in the next six to 18 months.
