Overview
Innatera develops the Spiking Neural Processor T1, an ultra-low-power, event-driven computing platform that combines a spiking engine with a CNN accelerator and RISC-V CPU for sensor-agnostic AI in battery-powered devices. The T1 was unveiled in January 2024 and is slated to enter production later in 2024, with high-volume deliveries beginning in Q2 2025. The company says the investment will accelerate mass production to reach 1 billion devices by 2030. Innatera is led by CEO Sumeet Kumar and recently appointed Duco Pasmooij, former Apple VP, to its advisory board. The company is based in Delft, The Netherlands and raised $21M in its Series A round. Innatera develops microprocessors that mimic the brain’s processing mechanisms via a proprietary analog-mixed-signal computing architecture. The company recently launched the Spiking Neural Processor T1, which delivers signal processing and pattern recognition within a sub-milliwatt power envelope. It also offers the Talamo software development kit to simplify development of spiking neural networks. Led by CEO Sumeet Kumar, Innatera aims to scale commercial adoption of its brain-inspired chips and expand customer engagements. The company plans to use the new capital to accelerate mass production and broaden its application offerings. Financially, Innatera raised €15M in a Series A to support these go-to-market and production initiatives. Innatera develops a neuromorphic processing chip that closely mimics the brain’s pattern-recognition mechanisms to enable sensor-edge AI. The chip can process sensor data up to 100 times faster and use as much as 500 times less energy than conventional processors. Innatera targets embedding advanced AI into sensor-driven devices for applications such as intelligent speech processing in human-machine interfaces, vitals monitoring in wearables, target recognition in radars and lidars, and fault detection in industrial and automotive equipment. To commercialize its silicon, the company is building a suite of proprietary algorithms and an extensive software toolchain. The fresh €5 million seed funding will be used to hire aggressively, scale R&D, and accelerate product development to meet customer commitments through next year. The article identifies the company as a Delf-based startup and shows its co-founders as Dr. Amir Zjajo, Dr. Sumeet Kumar, and Dr. Rene van Leuken.
