Overview
IRUBIS develops Monipa, a spectroscopy-based process analytics (PAT) product for bioprocessing applications. The company positions Monipa to address monitoring challenges in both traditional antibody manufacturing and newer modalities. In August 2024 IRUBIS announced the close of a pre‑Series A funding round led by BioProcess360 Partners. Supporting investors named in the announcement include HTGF (High‑Tech Gründerfonds), Verve Ventures, Ventura BioMed Investors, RoBet KG and business angels Matthias Arnold and Dr. Christoph Bremus. Company leadership and investors framed the round as the start of a growth phase to further develop and commercialize their bioprocessing and spectroscopy capabilities. No financial amount or operating metrics were disclosed in the press release. IRUBIS is a Munich-based startup founded in September 2017 by Lorenz Sykora, Alexander Geißler and Anja Müller that develops process analytical technology for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Its core product, Monipa, is a mid-infrared spectrometer system enabling real-time monitoring and prediction of metabolites, nutrients and protein quantity/quality during cell cultivation and purification. Monipa features a single-use interface and a simplifying calibration model and has been developed in close partnership with biopharma companies; it is already in use by key opinion leaders. The system is plug-and-play and designed to improve yield, product quality and shorten overall process development. IRUBIS raised EUR 2.8m in a seed financing round to scale operations, grow the team, increase sales and introduce the next Monipa version to market.
