Overview

ItsOn provides a cloud-based services platform called the ItsOn Smart Services™ platform that enables mobile digital transformation and real-time, on-device mobile commerce for wireless services, content and apps. The company operates primarily from North American data centers. Founded in 2008 by Dr. Greg Raleigh, ItsOn works with mobile operators in the U.S. and globally. Its core product is deployed to deliver enhanced digital experiences and commerce directly on devices. The company says it will use the new funding to install additional global data centers. Those data centers are intended to support market launches in South America, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. ItsOn is a Redwood City, CA–based provider of a cloud-based platform for mobile operators. The platform enables operators and MVNOs to create and deliver personalized, interactive and context-relevant mobile network services. Its solution virtualizes service policy control, billing, traffic-management and on-device user self-care functions within a single integrated service design and orchestration environment. Through a cloud overlay onto existing mobile networks it orchestrates voice, text and data connection policies as well as BSS/OSS processes across operator systems. The technology is positioned to enable new smartphone, tablet and "Internet of Everything" wireless services while lowering operating costs. The company plans to use the latest Series C proceeds for sales expansion beyond the U.S. and has raised $47.5m in venture capital to date. ItsOn provides a cloud-based virtual OSS/BSS platform that enables carriers to implement service and billing controls such as application-based paid or sponsored plans, tethering/roaming controls, speed boosts, on-device plan purchasing and parental controls. The company sells its SaaS platform to large mobile operators while also offering a consumer product called Zact. ItsOn positions its cloud approach as easier, faster and cheaper to implement than traditional hardware-based systems. Management says the company has transitioned from startup to a revenue-growth stage. The new funding will be used to accelerate global sales expansion outside of North America. The company states these capabilities are aimed at helping carriers move beyond being a “bit pipe” and gain customer loyalty and higher margins. ItsOn has raised just over $40 million since its 2008 founding. ItsOn Mobile builds carrier-facing software that enables a variety of flexible mobile data pricing models, including pay-as-you-go top-ups, ad-supported data access, and app-specific unlimited plans. The platform also supports partnerships where e-commerce apps could offer free or discounted data tied to shopping or loyalty points. The company has been in stealth for four years and has run private tests with several carriers. ItsOn is preparing a launch with one of the major U.S. national carriers early next year and is considering a European rollout by mid next year. The team includes co-founder Greg Raleigh, the inventor behind 4G MIMO, and Charles Giancarlo, a former Cisco executive and Silver Lake managing director. ItsOn attracted Series B funding prior to launch, reflecting investor confidence despite the company not yet being commercial at scale.
