Overview

January’s debt-resolution platform humanizes debt collection by rehabilitating relationships with borrowers, driving net recoveries, and reducing risk for creditors. The company works with banks, credit unions, debt buyers, and fintech lenders and aims to be a single platform for collection and recovery needs. Since its 2022 Series A, January says it has helped hundreds of thousands of Americans resolve debt and millions more move forward, while quadrupling revenues and client count and experiencing a 5x increase in monthly accounts. Its client roster includes top-20 card issuers, publicly traded fintechs, top-10 credit unions, and debt buyers, and January reports its third-party collection service is the top-performing agency for over 90% of clients. The company has doubled its team since the Series A and earned industry-leading borrower ratings, including 4.8/5 on Google Reviews. With the new funding January plans to scale its core product to the largest financial institutions and launch a solution to address delinquent accounts before charge-off. January (formerly Debtsy) operates a platform that partners with creditors to provide streamlined, tech-enabled collections and recovery services, charging a contingency fee on dollars collected. The company emphasizes compliant and compassionate outreach, providing lenders a complete record of every consumer interaction across channels and claiming guarantees on compliance and performance. January says it has established relationships with large credit unions, debt buyers and fintech lenders, including BCU, Octane, Alliant and RBFCU. In 2021 the company tripled its revenues and more than doubled headcount to around 37, with plans to reach roughly 70 by year-end. January plans to use new capital to continue expanding its product line and hiring to scale operations. Founder Jake Cahan frames the business as addressing an antiquated part of consumer finance by improving outcomes for both creditors and consumers.
