Road 24, House 15, Gulshan-02, Dhaka, 1212, Bangladesh

Overview

Founded in 2019 and based in Dhaka, Jatri describes itself as a public transport journey planner, digital ticketing, fleet management and mobility marketplace. It began as a bus tracking and digital ticketing platform and has since expanded its service set, including launching a car rental service during the coronavirus pandemic. The company says it has facilitated 3.5 million transactions for transport tickets and works with thousands of bus partners across three Bangladesh cities. With the latest funding, Jatri plans nationwide expansion and intends to broaden offerings beyond ticketing and vehicle rentals. Financially, the company recently completed a Pre-series A raise to support these growth plans and previously raised an undisclosed seed round in January 2020. Jatri builds a passenger-facing mobile application that enables digital tracking and ticketing for buses while offering tools for operators to improve schedule adherence and optimize travel times. The product targets increased bus ridership by making journeys more reliable, seamless, and stress-free for passengers and by enhancing fleet-management capabilities for operators. Founded in early 2019, the team has focused initial deployment in Bangladesh’s metropolitan areas and plans to expand to additional transport modalities and scale regionally and globally. In just over eight months of operation Jatri reports more than 30,000 unique users and that its technology has been used by leading bus operators to complete over 50,000 trips. The company says the seed funding will be used to scale services in populous metropolitan areas in Bangladesh and to accelerate product development. Jatri is also engaging with local regulators and public institutions to support reforms that enable growth of intermediary transport technologies. Jatri is developing a ticketing app to address public bus transportation challenges in Dhaka. The app lets customers book seats in advance, view live bus location to time their departure, and use electronic tickets with secure digital payments. On the operator side, Jatri provides real-time earnings tracking and tools to monitor driver safety. The company has been running a pilot and is currently available on Trust transport services in Dhaka. Jatri was founded by Aziz Arman and Zia Uddin and has not yet launched publicly.
