Overview

JetMeds is a Seattle-based, seven-person startup developing a smart collar that automatically applies micro-doses of topical and transdermal treatments to animals. The device uses advances in inkjet printing and microfluidics to blast small amounts of fluid at high velocity onto an animal's skin or fur and dispenses medicine via replaceable cartridges tracked by a mobile app. A five-month study showed complete efficacy against fleas while using only 25% of the typical monthly dose. The company plans to launch the product in 2024 and will partner with pet and animal pharmaceutical manufacturers to supply treatments in cartridge form, using a printer-style business model. Near-term cartridge applications include parasiticides, anthelmintics, repellents and anti-infectives, with plans to add anti-inflammatories, analgesics and potentially hygiene/personal care products. JetMeds recently raised $1 million through a mix of self-funding and corporate partnerships and intends to raise $3.5–$5 million in a Series A over the next year. Founders include Michael Manion, Steve Leith and David Kraft, and remaining development challenges include ensuring the device is rugged and preventing animals from chewing through the collars.
