Jetpac is an iPad social travel app that aggregates photos from Facebook and automatically locates their origins, even when photos aren’t geo-tagged. The service curates images using a combination of humans and trained algorithms, selecting roughly the top 10% of photos for quality. Jetpac has indexed over 750 million Facebook photos and estimates about half could be considered travel or local travel. The updated app introduces “Atlas,” a city-based navigation and a friends list to enable more purposeful searching. Users average 18 actions per session, browse around 80 photos per visit, have an average session time of about four minutes, and many return multiple times; some sessions exceed 30 minutes. With the new funding, Jetpac plans to hire developers and designers and add requested features such as the ability to communicate with friends and ask for travel advice.
