Jimdo is a website builder that enables users to create over 15 million websites and offers cross-platform apps on iOS and Android. Founded in Germany in 2007, it launched in eight languages and operates offices in Hamburg, San Francisco, and Tokyo. The company has about 200 employees and says it has been profitable since 2009. Jimdo historically declined outside funding and had previously raised only €500,000 before the current deal. Leadership (Christian Springub, Fridtjof Detzner and Matthias Henze) say they will invest the new capital in marketing and product to accelerate their existing strategy rather than change course. The company previously sold a 30% stake to United Internet in 2008 and bought it back a year later.
