Overview
Founded in June 2020, Jingling develops Linux-based hardware and an accompanying OS (JingOS) and has assembled an 80-person team with backgrounds from Aliyun OS, Thunder Software and China’s open source community. Its first product, the ARM-based JingPad A1 tablet with a detachable keyboard, has shipped over 500 units in a pre-sale and is being promoted via crowdfunding. JingOS is open sourced on GitHub and has accumulated over 50,000 downloads, primarily from users in the U.S. and Europe. Hardware development and the supply chain are based in Shenzhen while most OS work is done in Beijing; current devices use Tsinghua Unigroup processors with plans to consider Qualcomm and MediaTek for future production. The company is initially targeting the Linux developer community and aims to broaden its user base and pursue the Chromebook market. Jingling recently raised a $10 million angel round, providing near-term funding to support product ramp and software development.
