Kaleido develops Microbiome Metabolic Therapies (MMTs), novel chemistries designed to systematically drive functional outputs of the microbiome organ. The company is clinical-stage and advancing a pipeline of MMTs across multiple therapeutic areas, including rare genetic disorders. Kaleido says its discovery and development model enables rapid translation into the clinic, with early and continuous integration of human data to improve translatability and reduce time and cost. Management reports the company has conducted 10 human clinical studies in three years. Kaleido plans to use the new financing to advance its pipeline, conduct multiple clinical studies across several therapeutic areas, and expand its platform. The company has received approximately $165 million to date from its founder Flagship Pioneering and other investors. Kaleido Biosciences has built an R&D engine to systematically create, discover, and develop interventions that activate metabolic processes in the microbiome. Since its founding in 2015 by Flagship VentureLabs, the company has advanced candidate products into clinical studies across programs in rare genetic diseases, oncology and infectious disease. Kaleido has generated more than 3,000 days of human clinical data across its programs. The company is also creating consumer products aimed at optimizing the microbiome's natural roles in promoting health. Leadership is led by CEO and board chair Mike Bonney, with a management and scientific team spanning research, clinical, finance, corporate, and food & nutrition divisions. The company has raised a total of $65M to date, funding further discovery and testing of its novel chemistries.
