Level 3/125 Saint Georges Bay Road, Parnell, Auckland, 1052, New Zealand

Overview

Kami provides a classroom engagement and teacher productivity content platform designed to simplify teacher workflows, increase student engagement, and reduce printing costs. The platform is used by a global community of more than 40 million users and the company has a team of over 100 people. Led by CEO Hengjie Wang, all four founders remain with the business. Kami plans to use the new funding to accelerate its existing plans to bring the platform to every classroom in the world. The company will continue to operate from Auckland, New Zealand and will open a Boston office to support its expansion. The investment valued Kami at more than $175 million USD. Kami, founded in 2013 by Hengjie Wang, Alliv Samson, and Jordan Thoms, provides a web application for teachers and students to annotate, view, edit and collaborate on PDFs and other digital documents. The product targets classrooms aiming to transition to paperless workflows and enable more engaging, collaborative learning. Kami reports over six million users across more than 130 countries. The company raised NZ$1.5 million (about US$1.42 million) in funding to support its next stage of growth. Proceeds will be used to scale operations with particular focus on expansion in North America and Europe. Founder Hengjie Wang has said the team will leverage investor connections through the Draper Venture Network to accelerate growth.
