Overview
Kanpla is a Danish SaaS company that provides a digital platform for contract catering in workplaces and educational institutions. Its platform lets canteens view menus with CO2 emissions and nutritional information, make purchases, collect loyalty points, and gather customer feedback. In less than two years Kanpla expanded from Denmark to 10 countries across Europe, including Scandinavia, the UK and Benelux. The company currently has a team of 45 and expects to double its workforce over the next year to support growth. Management says the business aims to position itself as the global technology leader in contract catering and to help chefs save time while reducing food waste and improving customer experience. Kanpla raised an €8M Series A to fund its planned international expansion across Europe and the United States. Kanpla provides a two-sided canteen platform: an "operating system" for kitchens to create digital menus, handle payments, collect sales data and manage operations, and a mobile/web app for diners to preorder meals. The platform includes features to sell surplus food as takeaways and a food-waste registration tool (currently in beta) that aggregates waste data and requires weighing discarded food. Kanpla initially targeted school canteens and has broadened to serve corporate and industrial canteens, counting customers such as Maersk, Carlsberg and providers Coor and Cheval Blanc. In 2022 its software was used in about 1,500 canteens, and the company expects to triple that number in the referenced year as it expands into more European markets. Kanpla plans geographic expansion beyond Denmark into the U.K., Norway and the Netherlands in 2023, with intentions to enter the U.S. and additional European markets the following year. The company was founded in 2019 and is led by CEO and co-founder Peter Bæch.
