Karamel is a French mobile app that helps parents find and book kid-friendly activities near them. The app surfaces a curated selection of nearby activities and lets users search by child age, activity category, price, distance and day of the week. It also highlights recurring activities for ongoing classes such as music or sports. On the marketplace side, activity organizers can reach parents more efficiently; Karamel does not charge a monthly subscription and instead takes a cut on transactions, with parents paying the same price as booking directly. The service is live in Paris, and users in Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux and Montpellier can search but cannot yet book through the app. The startup recently raised $560,000 (€500,000) from Kima Ventures, Roxanne Varza, Thibaud Elzière and Oleg Tscheltzoff and aims to become a one-stop shop for kids' activities; U.S. competitor KidPass uses a subscription and credit-based model.
