Overview
Karios Technologies is developing a hydrogel-based product intended to prevent tissue adhesions that form after surgery. The technology was spun out of research at UCLA and UC San Diego. The company is focused initially on pediatric patients with congenital heart defects. CEO Gregory Grover said the team’s passion is to bring the product into the clinic and then expand into other high-impact surgical areas. Grover previously served as a bioengineering postdoctoral fellow at UCSD and has held senior roles at biotech and medical device companies. Financially, Karios recently won a $145,000 prize from the Apis Health Angel Conference.
