Overview
Kaspar& is a Zurich, Switzerland-based software and wealth management company founded in 2020. It offers access to bank accounts, payment services and an investment app. The company’s investment options include a save-as-you-spend solution that rounds up card payments and invests the difference in index funds and ETFs. Kaspar& raised CHF 2.5M in Seed funding. As part of the financing, Avaloq acquired a minority stake and entered a strategic partnership with the company. The partnership will integrate Kaspar&’s investment app with the Avaloq Core Platform to enable banks running on Avaloq in Switzerland to provide accessible opportunities for clients to start investing. Kaspar& offers a rounded‑up payments product that automatically channels customers' spare change into portfolios of index funds and ETFs, alongside a fee‑free Swiss bank account and a prepaid Mastercard. The company was founded in 2020 as an HSG and ETH spin‑off in St. Gallen and was the first fintech to receive a FINMA license as an asset manager. Kaspar& was recently admitted to the SIX F10 incubator to develop Open Finance use cases. In the coming months the startup plans to expand its product set, including broadening a recently rolled‑out insurance integration and developing new services in the areas of pensions (Vorsorge) and donations (Spenden). BLKB is supporting Kaspar&’s growth with a convertible loan, and the bank described the funding as the basis for a long‑term partnership. The BLKB CEO highlighted the product’s digital access, user friendliness and automation of investment processes as key strengths. Kaspar& has launched a payment card, developed together with Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, that can round transactions up to the next franc and automatically invest the rounded amount into the user’s Kaspar& investment portfolio. The product aims to revive small-scale saving habits lost with contactless payments by making micro‑saving integrated with everyday card use. The company is an ETH- and HSG-origin spin-off and the founding team—Jan‑Philip Schade, Lukas Plachel, Lauro Böni and Sebastian Büchler—combines finance and software expertise. Thierry Kneissler, the ex‑Twint CEO, joined the board to add payments experience. Kaspar& closed an oversubscribed Pre‑Seed financing round from prominent business angels; the capital secures the pilot phase of the payment card. The funds also serve as the foundation for expanding additional investment and wealth‑management services.
