Kaster Technologies has built a software platform that analyzes a drug manufacturer’s entire production cycle—including equipment, constraints, and inventory—and then generates optimized production plans. The company claims its system can lift production capacity by roughly 20 percent without any new capital equipment. Delpharm, whose Boucherville, Québec plant originally backed the underlying research, is now a paying client, and Kaster has also signed a strategic commercial partnership with supply-chain firm Optel to aid go-to-market efforts. Internally, the six-person startup uses AI in a “guided, intentional” manner, although the technology has not yet been integrated into the customer-facing product because of regulatory considerations. In the near term, Kaster will focus on refining its software and expanding sales to additional generic drug makers that are grappling with rising costs and recurring shortages. The company was incubated through the Montréal cohort of Creative Destruction Lab, where it connected with several of its investors.
