Kastus develops light-powered antiviral and antimicrobial surface coatings designed for glass and touchscreen surfaces. Its coating is built into the screen to provide continuous surface-level protection and is ISO-proven to kill more than 99% of harmful bacteria and viruses, including human coronavirus. The company holds 44 global patents granted or pending and has seen commercial interest from customers including Lenovo, Lavazza and Kone. Founded in 2014 by John Browne, Kastus plans to use new funding to drive expansion of its surface-protection technology. Kastus has raised €5.6 million to support growth and commercial rollout of its coatings, aiming to reduce reliance on frequent manual disinfection of devices and public touch interfaces.
