Kicktag, formerly known as KickLight Labs, is developing consumer technology that augments online video by allowing users to pin contextual data, links and other rich information to individual moments of any clip. CEO and co-founder Michael Downing describes the product as a tool for video enthusiasts to inform, educate and entertain audiences more effectively. High-profile team members include INQ CEO and Spotify board member Frank Meehan, Stanford Research Institute EIR Michael Downing, NBC Universal host Gardner Loulan and John Mc Intire. Recruiting materials emphasize a goal of creating simple, disruptive consumer applications that could change how the world interacts with video across the web. While still in stealth, the company is running a private beta programme and actively hiring senior engineers, signalling an intent to accelerate product development. No user, revenue or traction metrics have been disclosed. The company has secured outside capital to fund continued R&D and expansion of its video-data tagging platform.
