Kit for Kids manufactures health- and safety-focused children's mattresses with attention to breathability, temperature regulation, hygiene and support. Founded in 1993 by CEO Jan van der Velde and based in Sevenoaks, Kent, the company sells white-label and own-brand mattresses through major UK retailers such as John Lewis, Mothercare and Babies'R'Us. It is expanding rapidly via high-end retailers in the Middle East and trades in over 30 countries. The company has operations in Norfolk, elsewhere in Europe, Dubai and the US. In July 2017 Kit for Kids raised £3.7m in funding to meet increasing demand from existing retail customers and to exploit further significant growth opportunities in the UK and export markets. The investment is intended to support the company’s international expansion and increased production to satisfy retailer demand.
