KiWi

Lausanne, Vaud, Switzerland

Overview

KiWi, developed by Lausanne-based eBOP SA, is a digital platform that turns any smartphone into an affordable cash register and card-payment terminal for micro-businesses. Beyond basic acceptance of card payments, the app enables merchants to offer additional services such as prepaid mobile phone top-ups, creating incremental revenue opportunities. The solution is already live in Mexico, demonstrating product-market fit in emerging economies where small merchants are largely cash-based. Management plans to expand the service to ten countries and onboard one million merchants by 2020, pursuing a land-and-expand strategy across Latin America and other underserved markets. To finance this growth, KiWi secured a CHF 500 000 FIT Early loan, providing interest-bearing, non-recourse capital to accelerate commercial rollout. Although no revenue or user numbers were disclosed, the company’s stated merchant target underpins a substantial addressable market and a clear scaling roadmap.
