Klar2O is a Bruchsal-based startup that has created a “Smart Surface” technology using biochemically coated, regenerable silica beads to adsorb micro- and nanoplastics, achieving independently tested retention rates of up to 99.7 %. The beads can be regenerated and reused multiple times, eliminating the single-use waste associated with conventional activated-carbon or ceramic filters. The company is preparing a family of products ranging from household countertop and tap filters to industrial-scale systems and has already signed initial pilot customers in the bottled-water sector. Fresh Series A capital will fund final product development, accelerate regulatory certifications, and support an international launch focused on Asia, North America and continued European pilots. Klar2O also aims to expand its media to capture PFAS and other “forever chemicals,” reinforcing its broader vision of a circular economy in water filtration. The startup targets establishing a global regenerative filter ecosystem by 2025. Financially, it has now raised €4.5 million in Series A funding after previously securing more than €1 million in earlier rounds plus €100 k in state grants, giving it runway for market entry and scale-up.
