Klatu Networks develops Traxx, a predictive IoT system that combines sensors, connectivity and analytics to detect impending failures in cryogenic freezers storing biologics and medical samples. The company targets a niche, high‑value market where freezers cost about $12,000 and must maintain temperatures from below −60°C to as low as −180°C; Klatu says roughly 15% of those units fail each year. Each freezer can hold millions of dollars of vaccines, stem cells and other biologically active treatments, so preventing failures mitigates significant financial and scientific risk. Klatu serves eight of the top ten biotechnology companies, with four customers signed since January, and shifted from software to make IoT its core business after adding IoT in 2012. Co‑founded in 2008 by CEO Rick Kriss, Chief Software Architect Chris Exline, Director of Field Operations Pete Larsson and Dan Simpson, the company is co‑headquartered in the Seattle and San Diego areas. The company recently raised $1 million from Seattle‑area angel investors to support continued growth.
