Overview
KNIME began as an academic project led by Michael Berthold and was founded in 2008 by Berthold, Bernd Wiswedel and Thomas Gabriel. Its core product is a visual, no-code workflow platform and business hub that integrates with systems of record to transform, analyze, visualize and deploy data pipelines with optional governance and security. The company offers a fully managed version used by about 400 paying customers, including Audi, AMD, Lilly, Novartis, Bayer, Sanofi, Genentech, the FDA, P&G and Mercedes‑Benz. Annual recurring revenue has grown roughly 30–40% per year since founding and is now about €30 million (~$32.35M). KNIME recently launched an AI assistant and plans to expand its SaaS portfolio with pay‑as‑you‑go tiers targeting small and medium businesses. The firm plans continued product development and expanded commercial efforts across the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Africa. KNIME was close to profitability in 2024 but has chosen to invest the new capital to accelerate growth. Knime provides an open-source analytics platform that enables organizations to discover opportunities in data, mine for insights, and predict scenarios. The platform supports a wide range of data types from numbers and images to molecules and networks. A community of data scientists at large-scale enterprises in over 60 countries uses the platform across industries including life sciences, financial services, publishing, retail, manufacturing, consulting, government and research. Led by CEO Michael Berthold, the company plans to continue development of its software. Knime has offices in Zurich, Konstanz, Berlin and Silicon Valley. The company intends to use the newly received funds to support its ongoing development efforts.
