Overview
Knix is a Canada-based direct-to-consumer intimate apparel brand selling intimate apparel and related products. The company will use the new funds to support product innovation, brand building and to expand its North American fleet, and to develop its virtual fit programme. Knix also plans to launch new products and add more retail stores. The company reported strong growth, citing a five-year average annual growth rate of 150% and 3,800% three-year growth, and was named the 6th fastest growing company in Canada. Knix says it is highly profitable and is aiming to soon generate more than US$100 million in revenue. Knix designs and sells ‘high-tech’ intimates and wire-free bras using fabrics from outerwear and athletic apparel and its patented Fresh Fix Technology, which it says offers leak-resistant and odour-eradicating performance. The company began in 2013 with an Indiegogo campaign and has since expanded from e-commerce into brick-and-mortar, opening stores in Vancouver and downtown Toronto and forming a partnership with Nordstrom. Knix’s product line includes the Evolution bra — a fully reversible 8-in-1 design — and seamless underwear that the founder pitched via crowdfunding. The brand emphasizes comfort and functional features aimed at replacing traditional lingerie. Financially, Knix has raised seed funding from individual backers and angels, more than $1M via crowdfunding, and recently secured a new $5.7M financing. Institutional backers to date have been limited, with early seed support from Kathryn From and John Bahr. Knix Wear is an active intimates brand founded in May 2013 and based in Toronto. Its flagship product line began with leak-proof, absorbent underwear and has expanded to include the Evolution Bra, an 8-way, fully reversible, underwire-free bra with patented bonded construction. The Evolution Bra includes anti-odor, anti-microbial, moisture-wicking and quick-dry technologies and four-way stretch; it ships in sizes spanning 32A to 42DD across multiple size groupings. The company used customer research and feedback from thousands of Kickstarter backers to develop a virtual fit tool, scheduled to launch in June 2016, to improve sizing accuracy. The Evolution Bra is commercially available on Knix Wear's website now (sizes 1-4), with sizes 5-8 due in August. Knix's product line is sold in over 350 retailers across 10 countries as well as online.
