Overview

knok, founded in 2015 by José Bastos and Dr. João Magalhães, offers a single platform for secure video consultations and supporting tools for remote patient monitoring using artificial intelligence. The platform enables patients to share symptoms and medical information and allows clinicians to conduct integrated video consults across more than nine medical specialties. knok says its technology is based on data gathered from hundreds of thousands of video consultations and has been used in more than 160,000 consultations. The company is active across 12 countries and serves roughly 30 clients (hospitals, clinics and insurers) with over 3,100 active doctors. The new financing will be used to develop fully integrated telemedicine solutions that leverage 5G to improve access, reliability and collaboration, particularly for remote locations. Management plans to accelerate national and international expansion, strengthening presence in Spain, Brazil and other Latin American markets while opening new markets such as India, the UK and Italy. knokcare is a Porto-based health startup founded in 2015 that offers an application to facilitate access to primary care physicians via video consultations. The platform includes features for multidisciplinary and group consultations, enabling a doctor, patient and a family member or caregiver to participate and share information. knokcare serves more than 1.2 million patients worldwide, with presence in countries such as Brazil, South Africa and Angola, and has partnerships with Europ Assistance, AdvanceCare and Medicare, Grupo Lusíadas Saúde and NOS. It is also an accredited service provider to the UK’s NHS. The team is preparing to enter the Indian and Italian markets and is developing a specific solution for nursing homes in response to pandemic challenges. Recent fundraising will be used to strengthen the sales team and accelerate market entry with differentiated products and services. knok operates an "Uber-style" private healthcare platform enabling patients to access on-demand, in-person medical support at their chosen location. The platform charges €49 for general practice and specialist appointments in Portugal. Launched in December 2015, knok reported an average weekly growth rate of 15% over the past 10 months. The company positions itself on efficiency and affordability while aiming to provide personalized, high-quality care and additional compensation opportunities for junior doctors. knok plans to use the new funding to expand services within Portugal and into other countries. Early traction and the platform's pricing suggest accelerating demand for its on‑demand medical services.
