Knotable provides a platform that converts important email threads into shared, editable 'Pads' you create from email via a Chrome extension, Gmail tagging or by cc'ing Knotable. Inside a Pad users can edit content, add people, highlight key points, drop in files and use actions such as checklists, deadlines and votes, while recipients who are not on the platform still receive normal email replies. The company positions itself as distinct from chat, IM and project-management tools and likens the experience to an easier-to-use Google Wave or a 'Dropbox for key threads.' Knotable says it has been working on the product for about a year and is starting alpha signups, inviting early testers from TechCrunch readers. The company was founded by Amol Sarva and Edward Shenderovich, with Shenderovich serving as investor and chairman, and it lists a New York advisory group including Anil Dash, Khoi Vinh and others. Financially, Knotable has raised $1M from investors and customers, including Bloomberg Beta, Tom Glocer, Masoud Kamali and customer 2U.
