Overview
Knowunity is an AI-powered learning companion that combines personalized AI tutoring with over 3 million peer-created, curriculum-aligned study materials and short-form visual content. The platform operates on a freemium model with an optional premium subscription and brand partnerships with Vodafone, Gothaer, and Porsche. It serves more than 20 million users across 15 countries and has over 380,000 student creators; in Germany one in three students uses the app and in Latin America it reached one in ten students within months of launch. Knowunity’s AI tutor is trained on the peer-created materials, localized to national curricula, and delivers tailored recommendations and audio explainers. Engagement is strong—users overall use the app more than five times per week, and the AI companion is used more than seven times per week. The majority of revenue now comes from a fast-growing B2C subscription business, and the company aims to scale globally to provide affordable, 24/7 intelligent tutoring to a billion students. Knowunity operates a peer-to-peer learning platform focused on Gen Z, where top-performing students can create and publish study content for others. The app emphasizes a clean UX and user-generated study notes, now hosting over 300,000 study notes across subjects. Since launching in 2020 by CEO Benedict Kurz, it has been downloaded over 2.4 million times and is the number one learning app in Germany with more than 20,000 ratings. The company has expanded to Austria, Switzerland, France (about 300,000 Gen Z users) and Poland (60,000+ students). Knowunity plans to use the new capital to accelerate product development and market expansion, beginning with Italy and the UK, and intends to grow its team from 60 to 100 by year-end. Knowunity is a digital learning platform for and by students that enables users to find and upload study materials through its app. Launched in September 2020 and based in Stuttgart, the app hosts more than 50,000 pieces of user-generated content—summaries, learning aids, and explanations—available free across subjects. Experienced students can upload content, help others, and build follower bases, blending social media features with educational elements. The company describes itself as a 'Spotify for learning materials' and aims to cover all aspects of everyday school life as a complement to regular classes. Knowunity reports more than 700,000 student users and is cited as one of the fastest-growing education apps in Germany. Its stated plans, supported by new investment, are to further develop the platform and accelerate growth.
