KOBA builds a connected pay-per-km car insurance product that splits premiums into a fixed parked premium and a real-time per-km charge (typically 3–10¢) while driving. The telematic app measures distance in real time and charges drivers only for what they use. KOBA is currently in beta testing with a select group and is on-track to launch to the wider market in October. The company opened a Birchal crowdraise on 26 August and closed day one with $525K from 160 investors, having hit its minimum target within two hours. KOBA will use the funds to scale awareness among early adopters, continue evolving the app experience, and hire key team members. It has entered an underwriting partnership with Eric Insurance Limited to combine eric’s motoring expertise with KOBA’s telematic approach to accelerate market entry and navigate the regulated insurance industry.
