Overview

Kody is a UK-based PaaS provider that modernises in-person commerce for larger businesses by integrating financial infrastructure with operational software. Its platform streamlines business operations, reduces operating costs, and gives businesses faster access to cash flow. Kody offers proprietary analytics, including customer tracking data and spending insights, to help clients refine loyalty programs and improve retention. The company has been adopted by prominent retail and hospitality brands and reports annualised processing volume nearing $1 billion. With its $20M Series A, Kody plans to invest in talent and expand across the UK, continental Europe, Hong Kong, and Singapore to support international growth. The company was founded and is led by CEO Yoyo Chang, whose entrepreneurial background helped evolve the business from a payments tool into a broader commerce platform. KodyPay provides a one-stop, fully integrated payment solution that lets businesses accept physical card payments and online ordering simultaneously through an iOS/Android app or physical card machines. Its platform supports an expanding range of non-card payment types—e-wallets, buy-now-pay-later, open banking and cryptocurrency—with automated payment reconciliation across payment service providers. KodyPay offers custom checkout options such as no-app QR code ordering to enable contact-free checkout and higher revenue for venues. The company reports gross payment volumes exceeding £100M on an annualised basis after average month-over-month growth of 90% and has more than 500 UK venues signed up. Merchants can sign up online in minutes and save up to 60% on processing costs; hospitality customers have seen up to a 20% increase in staff tips. KodyPay has expanded headcount and leadership, adding a CTO and CPO, and plans product releases including embedded finance, enhanced data analytics and loyalty features to drive further merchant value and growth. KodyPay is a London-based payment acceptance startup founded in the summer of 2018 by a small group of final-year high school students, including co-founders Yoyo Chang (CEO) and Jack Howell (CDO). The company provides a single iOS/Android app that enables retail and hospitality businesses to accept in-person payments — including leading e-wallets, buy-now-pay-laters, open banking, Visa and MasterCard — and to offer contact-free checkout experiences such as order-at-table and self-checkout. Businesses can sign up online in minutes and use a smartphone or tablet to process payments at lower transaction costs than an expensive point-of-sale terminal. KodyPay works with partners including IBM, Checkout.com, Elavon, Laybuy, Nuapay and the University of York to accelerate growth. The company raised US$3.25M in the latest funding round, bringing total capital raised to US$6M in under 12 months. It intends to use the funds to bring its services to venues across the UK and to release new product features. KodyPay offers an omni-commerce driven mobile point-of-sale platform and payment aggregator that lets merchants accept cards, e-wallets and pay-later options via web and app interfaces. The platform is designed to remove bulk hardware such as tills and printers, which the company says can reduce transaction fees and eliminate customer queueing. KodyPay has built a wholly modular payment stack and has partnered with Cybersource (a Visa solution) to support merchants' preferred payment methods. The company is working with IBM partners TES Enterprise Solutions and Cognition Foundry to run the platform on IBM Z Systems. KodyPay is led by CEO and co-founder Yoyo Chang and co-founder Jack Howell, who is studying at the University of York. The business completed external funding in 2020, giving it capital to support product development and partnerships.
