Overview
Kolibree builds a preventive oral-care platform centered on a connected sonic toothbrush that doubles as a game controller using 3D motion sensors. The toothbrush and accompanying apps show users where they brushed and where they missed, and score children for using the correct angle to attack plaque. The company announced four new games for ages 3 through teenage years and Coach features for adults, with the titles scheduled for spring release. Kolibree is cooperating with game publisher Ubisoft on the new games. Financially, the company completed a $4 million funding round and began product sales in Q2 2015 with increasing gains throughout the year. Kolibree, founded in 2013, plans to scale growth and has stated a goal of raising $10 million from institutional investors and dentists worldwide. Kolibree's flagship product is a smart sonic electric toothbrush that uses Bluetooth and proprietary 3D motion sensors to provide real-time feedback on brushing time, areas brushed, and brushing force. The toothbrush pairs with free mobile apps—Go Pirate for children and Coach for adults—on iOS and Android to gamify brushing and store data so parents can monitor family progress. Developed with input from dental practitioners, Kolibree positions its technology as a preventive tool to reduce oral disease by improving brushing habits. Following a CES 2015 showcase, the company is pursuing rapid growth in the U.S. dental market and building relationships with dental professionals and consumers. Kolibree sells through dentist members of the Dentegra Smile Club and online via kolibree.com and Hammacher Schlemmer, and it has offices in New York, Paris and Hong Kong.
