The company plans to use the Series B proceeds to expand its go-to-market strategy and hire additional engineers and product staff to broaden product capabilities. To date the company has raised $27M in total funding. Kolide launched Kolide Cloud, a SaaS platform, on April 16, 2018 to provide visibility and actionable insights across devices and infrastructure for fast-growing technology companies. The product is built on Osquery, the open-source agent created by Kolide co-founders, which turns a fleet into a live, SQL-queryable database. The team includes Osquery creators and security experts from Facebook, Mandiant, and Carbon Black. Kolide Cloud aims to deliver security, compliance, and operational insights in a single product and a user-friendly experience. The company said improved Linux and Windows support and additional features would be available later in the year. Kolide is based in Cambridge, MA and is backed by Matrix Partners. Kolide’s product strategy centers on leveraging osquery to provide per-machine visibility as network encryption reduces the effectiveness of traditional detection tools. The company positions an open-source approach as a way to be scrutinized and improved by the security community rather than relying on proprietary vendors. Kolide has raised $1.6 million led by Dustin Willis Webber; that investment is backed by the hack/secure syndicate, Liam Randall, and other security experts. The team aims to add value around osquery so organizations that have already adopted the project will see a clear return on investing in Kolide’s tooling.
