Overview
Kooaba is a Swiss startup spun out of ETH Zurich's Computer Vision Lab that develops mobile visual search and augmented reality technology. Its mobile apps let users snap print ads, DVD and book covers, movie posters and physical goods to retrieve product information, best available prices, coupons, or associated digital extras. The company's image recognition API debuted in March, and it is finalizing its Shooting Star app, currently in closed beta. Kooaba's partner network includes Layar and Metaio among others. The company plans to use new capital to enter new geographic markets, hire additional talent (especially Rails developers), and pursue or expand partnerships in the visual search and AR space. The startup reported securing 3 million Swiss francs (about $3 million) in venture funding from undisclosed Swiss investors.
