Korner is a Seattle-based company founded in 2013 that makes a low-cost home security system consisting of a dongle that plugs into a router, sensing tags placed in the corners of doors and windows, and a smartphone app. The app sends real-time notifications when someone enters the home, lets users forward alerts to a pre-specified neighbor circle or contact police, and can arm or disarm the system remotely. The company sells a bundle of three sensing tags and one dongle for $59 and charges a $39 annual fee after each year of use. Korner is an eight-person team and is currently taking pre-orders while fulfilling Indiegogo orders that raised $416,994 this summer. The company raised $1.5 million in fresh funding to fuel marketing and production and to prepare for a public product launch in August.
