KORTUC develops KRC-01, an intratumoral radiosensitizer that uses hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient and sodium hyaluronate to maintain elevated tumor oxygenation for up to 48 hours after injection. The company reports KRC-01 inactivates antioxidative enzymes within tumors to reduce hypoxia and increase sensitivity to radiation therapy. A Phase 1/2 clinical trial led by the University of California San Diego has launched under an FDA-reviewed protocol and will enroll 70 patients (10 in Phase 1 and 60 in Phase 2) to evaluate safety and potential overall survival benefit in locally advanced cervical cancer. The study will begin in the U.S. with planned expansion to the U.K. and India. KORTUC is headquartered in Palo Alto and was originally founded in Japan. The company is also studying its technology in other solid tumor indications, including breast cancer, and recently closed a $20 million funding round led by Midas Capital to advance its clinical program.
