Overview
Kry operates a telehealth platform that focuses on improving primary care accessibility and is deepening offerings in specialist services. The company is expanding into mental health, chronic disease management (including diabetes and asthma), and women’s health. Kry reported over 100% year-on-year growth in both 2020 and 2021. A recent influx of more than $160 million from existing backers and a new investor is slated to further fuel its primary care services and specialist initiatives. Company representatives said the funding is unrelated to a recent round of layoffs. CEO and co-founder Johannes Schildt said the goal is to give more patients across Europe faster access to high-quality healthcare and allow healthcare professionals to spend more time with patients. Including this round, Kry has raised approximately $730 million to date. Kry operates a telemedicine platform and clinician tools that enable video and text consultations and integrate with physical clinic services in some markets. Its core product connects patients with clinicians for a range of primary-care issues and offers support tools for clinicians working in public healthcare systems. Kry saw 100% year-over-year growth in 2020, growing from roughly 1.6M digital appointments to more than 3M and now has about 6,000 clinicians using its platform. The company expanded access during the COVID-19 pandemic by offering a free service for doctors to conduct web-based consultations. Kry plans to invest the new funding in its patient-facing app, expand digitally delivered treatments (including ICBT and mental-health tools), and build tools for chronic-condition care via internal development, partnerships, or acquisitions. It remains focused on European markets and on deepening integration between digital and physical care delivery. KRY is a Stockholm-based digital healthcare scale-up that provides a telemedicine platform used by millions of patients. Founded in 2015, the company operates in Sweden, the UK and France (where it is known as LIVI), Germany and Norway. Its core product connects patients with healthcare services via digital consultations. KRY says it will use new funding to expand into additional European markets, bring its technology to more patients, accelerate product development, and ramp up hiring in key markets including the UK, France and Germany. Management describes the product as already "loved by millions" in its current markets. Financially, the company has completed previous growth financing, including a €53 million round in June 2018. KRY provides smartphone- and tablet-based video consultations with KRY-employed healthcare professionals, enabling patients to see a clinician within 15 minutes. Patients download the iOS or Android app, describe symptoms in writing, upload pictures, answer symptom-specific questions, and then receive a scheduled video call where doctors may prescribe medication, refer to specialists, or order lab or home tests. Prescribed medication and home tests can be delivered to the patient’s home within two hours. In under two years the service has logged over 350,000 patient meetings across Sweden, Norway and Spain via more than 300 clinicians. The company launched an online psychology solution in March 2018. KRY intends to use new funding to build its team, expand geographically (initially to the UK and France), deepen penetration in existing markets, and expand its medical offering. KRY operates an on-demand paid video-call-a-doctor service delivered through iOS and Android apps where patients complete symptom forms, upload photos and answer condition-specific questions before consultations. During video visits doctors can prescribe medication, refer to specialists, or order lab or home tests with follow-up appointments; prescribed medication and home tests can be delivered to patients’ homes. Patient medical information is recorded in local Electronic Medical Records systems (doctors access EMRs; KRY says other employees cannot access this information and patient data is not stored on KRY’s platform). The service launched in Sweden in March 2015 and expanded to Norway and Spain in February 2017; the company now has more than 100,000 users and employs over 200 doctors in Sweden. Consultations cost 250 SEK (around $31) and appointments are generally available between 7am and midnight; KRY says its doctors can handle about 60% of the 100 most common primary-care diagnoses and that it serves more than 1% of all primary healthcare in Sweden. KRY has closed a €20M ($22.8M) Series A to grow its on-demand business and primarily expand into additional European markets.
