Kubecost offers open source software and a commercial product that gives teams real-time visibility, insights and policy controls to monitor and reduce Kubernetes-related cloud costs. Founded in 2019 by Webb Brown and Ajay Tripathy, the company keeps its core product free and open source while selling an enterprise installable offering that can be used without sales interaction. Kubecost integrates with customers' cloud or on-premise environments to collect data, show where resources and costs are rising, and recommend optimizations. The company works with more than 2,000 companies, including over 100 enterprise customers, manages over $2 billion in Kubernetes spend, and reports ARR growing three times year over year. Kubecost plans to invest in hiring, major open source community initiatives, additional features and ecosystem integrations, and further development of insights and optimizations. It is also launching a managed "Hosted Kubecost" offering for customers that prefer the company to operate the product on their behalf.
