Labstep
25 Finsbury Circus, London, England, EC2M 7AB, United Kingdom
Overview
Labstep provides a mobile and web platform for building libraries of experimental procedures and recording progress step-by-step, creating an automatic audit trail and timelines for lab work. Its API can connect lab devices to automate result uploads, and procedures can be shared, forked, or linked to publications via unique IDs to improve reproducibility. The company plans product additions such as cloud features to enable outsourcing parts of experiments and interactive features to streamline bench work. As a route to monetisation it will launch a marketplace for lab supplies and plans to harness usage data to streamline ordering. Labstep says it has users from more than 600 universities, including Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Oxford, UCL, Imperial, King’s College and the Crick Institute. The team has a background in commercial R&D and academic research, and the company is led by CEO and co-founder Jake Schofield.
