Overview
Lagoa is a Montreal-based 3D cloud platform company that provides photoreal 3D visualization and collaboration tools. Founded in 2012 by CEO Thiago Costa, the company uses cloud processing to enable rendering and collaboration and exposes an API library for developers to build applications. Its platform targets 3D artists, designers, engineers, architects and advertisers who collaborate while rendering and finalizing 3D content. Lagoa has offices in Bonn and Boston. The company closed a $5.3M Series A led by Atlas Venture with participation from Siemens and Real Ventures, following a $1.6M seed round announced the prior April. Lagoa intends to use the funds to advance its 3D cloud technology and expand sales and marketing efforts. Lagoa offers a full 3D rendering and collaboration platform delivered entirely in the cloud and accessed through a standard web browser. The service includes tiered pricing from a free plan (5 rendering hours, 1GB storage, unlimited public viewing) up to a "powerhouse" tier at $123/month (250GB storage, 375 rendering hours, 25 private projects), with higher usage priced ad hoc. Its technology is described as patent-pending optimizations for speed and draws on founder Thiago Costa’s prior work on the desktop Lagoa MultiPhysics engine and cloud/gaming influences. Co-founder Arno Zinke brings a PhD in physically-based rendering and focuses on accurate material simulation; early users are reported in luxury goods and other industrial verticals. The platform supports import from other software and aims to enable real-time collaboration across design, sourcing, manufacturing and sales workflows. Lagoa announced a $1.6M seed round to support product launch and commercialization.
