Lamina Labs develops generative-video tools and launched Simi, a product that generates whiteboard-style explainer videos from a text prompt. The company was founded by Nepali founders Sudip Rokaya and Kartikesh Mishra, who met at MIT and operate from San Francisco. Lamina began as an effort to automate animation workflows and has repositioned toward deterministic animation infrastructure aimed at the EdTech sector. The founders cite a large potential speedup in producing instructional videos compared with manual animation workflows. Lamina has completed a $3 million seed financing backed by Y Combinator.
