Lanterne
8 Devonshire Square, London, EC2M 4YJ, United Kingdom
Overview
Lanterne builds a fleet optimisation platform that uses machine learning to predict demand for shared vehicles and generate optimised routes for fleet technicians. The software helps technicians position vehicles, swap batteries, and conduct maintenance, and the company says it can save fleet managers around 10% in operational costs compared with manual route building. It is currently used by Tier, Ginger, Zolo and Zwings across the UK, Germany, Iceland and Norway and is due to launch in Australia soon. The company was set up by Alex Barnes, Sebastian Mueller and Yohan Iddawela while they were studying at the London School of Economics. Lanterne began working in micromobility with an Innovate UK grant in 2020 and has also received support from startup competitions at the University of Oxford and LSE as well as a grant from the European Space Agency. The company has raised £485,000 in seed funding to scale its platform; investors include Melbourne-based Skalata and Dutch VC Rockstart. Lanterne is a London-based data science and geospatial analytics company, founded in 2019 by Alex Barnes and Sebastian Mueller, that builds an AI-based software platform to predict demand for micromobility operators. The platform improves vehicle demand predictions, optimises distribution of vehicles across cities, and increases fleet usage and revenues. It also optimises routes for fleet technicians to maximise completed tasks, helps mobility companies plan expansions, and monitors fleet performance. Lanterne is operational in 12 locations across the UK and Europe and has previously collaborated on geospatial projects with the European Space Agency and Innovate UK. The company will use the new funding to double down on engineering and data science capability to hit scaling targets for 2022-2023. The recent pre-Seed enables further commercialisation and development of its solution as it seeks to scale shared mobility operations.
