Overview

Mixel is an iPad app for assembling collages by cropping, resizing, and arranging images pulled from a user’s device, Facebook, and Bing. Every finished Mixel is public and can be remixed by other users, creating threaded remix conversations and social collaboration. The app is built for multi-touch tablets and aims to make art casual and accessible rather than monumental. Currently there are no privacy controls and all creations are public, though the team plans to add privacy settings for sharing with small groups. Planned product updates include adding Flickr, Tumblr, and Pinterest as image sources and launching a complementary iPhone app for browsing, feedback, and saving images; collage creation will remain iPad-focused. Mixel was developed at New York’s Dogpatch Labs by Lascaux Co., founded by Khoi Vinh and Scott Ostler, and is available on the App Store.
