Overview
Lasergen develops Lightning Terminators, a proprietary photocleavable nucleotide chemistry intended as part of an NGS platform that includes chemistry, instrumentation, and software. The Lightning Terminators are being developed to enable faster, more accurate, and lower-cost genome sequencing than existing technologies. The company is focused on commercializing the chemistry and building a sequencing workflow aimed at routine clinical NGS applications. To accelerate commercialization, Agilent Technologies invested $80 million to acquire a 48% stake and will join Lasergen’s board. Agilent also holds an option to acquire the remaining shares until March 2, 2018, for an additional $105 million. Lasergen was founded in 2002 and is based in Houston, Texas.
