Overview
Lasso is a mobile app founded by Photobucket co-founder Alex Welch and a few friends to make it easy for people to request and share photos from each others' camera rolls. The iOS app is live now and an Android version was expected within weeks of the article; new-photo indicators and simple swipe gestures (right to send, left to request) are core UX features. Welch says the team built Lasso to surface private moments people would share with select friends but currently don’t because sharing is cumbersome. Lasso plans to expand the concept beyond photos to other digital content, including videos, documents and apps. The company raised a $1.25 million seed round that will mostly go toward product development. Welch previously sold Photobucket to News Corp. for $300 million and left Photobucket in 2009.
